Apply for a Project 


The aim of al-Furqān Islamic Heritage Foundation is to document the vast Islamic written heritage and help conserve and preserve it, as well as to raise awareness in this field through publishing the outcome of its projects, such as catalogues, editing of texts.

The Foundation also aims to encourage researchers working in the field of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah.  

For that, The Foundation has opened a projects’ section on its website that allows researchers to send their proposed projects, either in the field of Islamic manuscripts or Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah, provided that it covers one of the following themes:

Special projects at the Centre for the Study of Islamic Manuscripts

A) The Qurʾān and its Disciplines
B) Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh) and its Principles
C) History
D) Sciences

3) Research Project on Codicology, for application click here

Special Projects at the Centre for the Study of the Philosophy of Islamic Law

1) Project on Editing Manuscripts in the field of the Objectives of Islamic law (Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah), for application click here.

You are kindly requested to download the form of the proposed project corresponding to one of the subjects on the list above and send it along with pertinent files - including the CV of the applicant and other relevant material to: projects@al-furqan.com.

Important notes for projects’ applicants to be followed

1) If the project is a research or study, as criteria, it should present the characteristics of a scientific, innovative, precise and documented work indicating its academic value, and it should be distinguished by its originality, depth and objectivity, as well as by using the scientific research methodology.

2) The proposal should be  related to Islamic written heritage or the objectives οf Islamic Law.

3) For editing Manuscripts, the value and importance οf the text to be edited, its originality and a work plan must be established.

4) For cataloguing Manuscripts, you are requested to attach along with your project proposal application, 10 samples of cataloguing cards, since the goal of the Al-Furqān Foundation is to have a comprehensive cataloguing card rather than a hand list or partially catalogued card.

5) The submitted project (work) should be ready for printing and publishing and supported by the necessary photographs and diagrams- if any- as well as a full bibliography.

6) The proposed project should not have been published before or have been presented to another institution to publish. In this case the Al-Furqān Foundation is not obliged to publish it, unless there are clear justifications.

The Foundation will present the project proposals to the Board of Experts to review. If approved, the Foundation will contact the principal investigator of the project to feedback the results and to discuss the project contract.

The Foundation reserves the right to reject projects which deemed irrelevant to specified subjects mentioned above, do not reach the required level set by the Board of Experts, or incomplete.
